2023 McKee, Clancy and Clune Commemoration addressed by Deputy Aengus Ó Snodaigh
2023 McKee, Clancy and Clune Commemoration
addressed by Deputy Aengus Ó Snodaigh

The annual commemoration honouring the memory of Dick McKee, Peadar Clancy and Conor Clune was held on 19 November 2023 at the guardhouse in Dame Street, Dublin.

McKee, Clancy and Clune were killed in British custody on the day of Bloody Sunday, 21 November, 1920. Dick McKee was the Commandant of the Dublin Brigade of the IRA, while Peadar Clancy was Vice-Commandant. Conor Clune was identified by the British as part of a raid on Vaughan’s Hotel on Parnell Street. The men were killed as an act of revenge, although the untrue explanation at the time was that they were killed whilst trying to escape.

President of the 1916-1921 Club, Jim Doyle, delivered the opening remarks and welcomed the commemoration’s guest speaker Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD.

Deputy Ó Snodaigh spoke about contemporary issues facing Irish republicanism. He was keen to emphasise that no party or group has an exclusive claim on commemorating our past.
